About the event

It is tempting at the start of a new year to dive straight into deep stretches, big movements and dramatic openings. Yet the real richness of movement comes from what happens before all of that. It comes from taking time to organise the body, set the tone and establish the stack.

We are beginning the year with these two stack focused classes because stacking is not a warm up. It is a decision. When the stack is present, everything that follows becomes clearer, safer and more effective.

You may have noticed that our work has been moving in a more therapeutic direction. This is intentional. Over the years, our understanding of anatomy and biomechanics has evolved, not just personally, but across the entire field. Ten years ago, stacking was often taught through the lens of intrinsic core activation and intra abdominal pressure alone. That framework was valuable and still holds importance. What has changed is the depth of the picture.

Today, stacking is not only about the intrinsic core. It is about the relationship between the core and the muscles of ambulation. It is about how the limbs organise around the centre, how movement intention feeds back into stability, and how the body prepares itself for the actions it is about to take.

Because of this, the way we teach stacking has evolved. We now explore it in ways that complement the sequences we move into, rather than treating it as a separate concept. The stack becomes something alive, responsive and relevant to the movements that follow.

Somatically, prioritising the stack is also an act of self respect. It means beginning the practice by acknowledging your own structure, your gifts and your limitations. Limitations are not a problem. When we know what we are working with, it becomes easier to move intelligently and to access our strengths with honesty and care.

By setting the stack first, we set the tone for how we move through the entire sequence. We bring intention into the core of our movement patterns. From there, movement becomes a way of honouring who we are, not forcing ourselves into shapes.

These two classes open the year by returning to what matters most.

Organisation before expression.

Stability before expansion.

Clarity before complexity.

We hope you can join us. They are thoughtful, therapeutic, and genuinely enjoyable to explore.

Opening the Heart through the Stack

3 January at 4pm Jakarta / 9am UK

Jambo presents Stocking the Stack for 2026 — a class focused on the stack, innovative approaches to core work and therapeutic sun salutations that twist the body toward a sense of stability you can carry into the year ahead.

4 January at 4pm Jakarta / 9am UK

Ricky leads a deep exploration of what happens to the stack when we move into backhands. Many practitioners experience the ribs lifting away from the pelvis in a back bend and losing intrinsic core stability. This session dives into how the abdominal, hip and thoracic cores can align to help create blissful heart, chest and shoulder opening.
